I have but only one true arch-enemy on this Earth and his name is Gabriel.
By his actions and attitude you would think that Gabe is on every A-list from here to New York, London and Japan. No time for anyone but those inside the inner circle, everyone else is no better than dust from the sidewalk.
On more than one occasion The Master of Evil has completely ignored my presence despite the fact that I make both visual and verbal contact. In return, if I'm lucky, I get a shrug.
Twice he ignored me long enough that I just got up and walked away despite the potential social embarrassment.
When he does talk to me, I swear his voice is different every time. First with a Latin American accent, then basic Californian. I can't decide if he's a thespian or just bored. During my last interaction with Gabriel I could swear I was talking to Latka Gravas.
If not for his adolescent, pencil thin, scrubby mustache I would likely forget I was dealing with the same person. That and his white hat pinched at two ends to form the perfect hair retainer. It's the mustache and hat combination that makes our meetings especially hard.
You see Gabriel is a waiter at Johnny Rockets, located in the Block at Orange. And he's a horrible one at that perhaps the worst in the world. The food is great, but Gabe just brings the house down. And not in a classy enough way to be considered the Soup Nazi of the Burger World.
No matter what time of day, day of week, or minute on the hour I go to Johnny Rockets (which is seldom) he's there and somehow assigned to the "zone" I choose to sit in. It's almost as if fate were toying with me and my craving for a good cheeseburger.
My only saving grace is that he's not working at Starbucks. Then I would almost certainly have to believe that these are the End of Days.

Man, I thought you were refering to the Archangel Gabriel... you know, the angel of judgement. In which case it would make sense for him to snub you. I mean, he's not even of this earth, and he definately rolls with a bigger crowd than you probably do. He is probably a very busy guy to boot. But you were talking about some waiter guy... hmmm. Well, if he is in fact pure evil, take a nod from Hellboy and try some proven ward offs, throw some garlic at him, maybe an iron horseshoe.
If he was the Archangel, his attitude, and use of different accents, would make more sense. Unfortunately he's probably another low life from the 909 who swoops down to the OC to create havoc.
One word: accountability.
Oh, wait. I'm not talking 9/11 Commission here. Sorry.
Just go to his manager and explain that you want a better quality of service, that there is a pattern of poor service from this particular waiter, and that you will ask to be re-seated in someone else's section whenever you get him in the future.
Yeah. Accountability.
Amen to what Stefan said... on both 9/11 and Gabri-Hell.
I must see the "Gabriel Experience" for myself. Personally, I find entertainment in watching someone who does their job so poorly that they simply shine.
Greg, it's time to hit the brakes and rethink your outlook on this Hitler of Hamburg.
I think you should bring him a gift the next time you go in. Make it something cheap, but something that will show him you really want to work on your relationship. Maybe a piece of flair to match his lil' J. Rocket bowtie?
Oh, and one more thing...
It's not Johnny Rockets, it's J. Ro.
Well I'm hoping the six cent tip I left him along with a "you suck" note on the bill will show the error of his ways.
I love leaving those little notes. My friends always claim leaving a single penny stings worse, but I usually just write ZERO in block letters and try to have a word with a manager if time permits. And why is it that bad service always happens at the best restaurants (or at least those that we usually enjoy)?
Bad waiters deserve of course no tip and should be shot. Well okay, not shot but they should be banished to a land where everytime they go to a restaurant they are served by someone just as bad as them. Its what they deserve:) Anyways, I sympathize with you. And you have a nice site by the way.
Do you tip him 5% or none?
