About eight days ago my stomach let me know that it wasn't happy in life. I spent twenty-four hours mostly vertical, really trying to avoid any movement so as not to make the stomach any more unhappy. Some hours--and then days--went by better than others but that's putting it all mildly. Fortunately Airbag's sick policy is such that I get to work from home so that when I need to sleep off a fever I'm not doing it leaning over a desk. Thankfully we have some great clients who were very gracious in their understanding but the work still has to get done.
As Cameron alluded to last week, business has been outstanding. Airbag continues to grow at a rate faster than expected, almost a year ahead of schedule. There's not much to tell now but come March we'll have a day or two of show-and-tell.
Meanwhile the writing panel for SXSW is coming together nicely. Along with myself sitting at the table will be Ethan Marcotte (a well educated man of the English language, especially in written form), Bronwyn Jones (copywriter for a very beloved technology gadget company), and Erin Kissane (editor superhero who doesn't wear a cape much these days but still has the grammar lasso). These three insanely gifted and witty individuals will more than make up for my ten minutes of um's and uh's and if all else fails I'll hijack the panel and bullet point the reasons why Nintendo's Wii makes me yawn.

The word you want is "allude". "Elude" means to avoid or escape.
That's great that the client game is going really well, congrats man. Personally I never liked client work no matter what money it brought in, my goal was to work for myself, fully, at some point sooner rather than later. In the next month or so I'm going to be closing up shop at Business Logs and selling the whole damn thing to work on 9rules full-time now that we're making more money there. I guess the question I've got to ask you and every other designer on this thread is can you see yourself doing client work for the rest of your life? I think I already answered that question for myself up above but I'd really like to see what other people think.
Could be that Cameron has indeed - eluded to - like a full time gig.
> The word you want is "allude".
Thanks allude dude.
> can you see yourself doing client work for the rest of your life?
Eventually Airbag will diversify but I don't have the same distaste for the services industry that has been all the craze in the last year. One of IBM's largest sources of revenue comes from their "client work" division bringing in tens of Billions of dollar each year. I wouldn't mind having a piece of that.
Must be going around. In my case I caught food poisoning from a breakfast joint. Ironically that same day the waitress, who is a friend, told me I shouldn't eat there anyway. How's that for service?
Vertical is the only saving grace. And even then it feels like you're barely holding onto your food and sanity.
Go Airbag Go.
Didn't you mean "horizontal" (lying down) not "vertical" (standing up)?
Re: Greg — it all depends on the clients. I've been doing work for clients for 20+ years. We've had some losers (like the ones I made Greg deal with), but we continue to have some great projects where we get to collaborate with smart people doing interesting stuff. I like the contact and the involvement with complex issues that wouldn't come with home-rolled projects. Does it sound nice to hole up and write a book from an Italian summer cottage? Yeah, someday ‐ but that sounds like retirement not working for myself.

No, it felt better being upright than lying down. I only wish I had zero gravity to make it more comfortable. Beware the pre-cut salami from Trader Joes...
Food poisoning always a good weight-loss method. Look on the brightside. :)
Hope your feeling better now, oh, I mean "you're" :P
"Airbag continues to grow at a rate faster than expected, almost a year ahead of schedule."
Isn't some goal readjustment needed? I mean, if you're a year ahead you might be able to make some more dramatic steps than you once thought. Just a thought as I am but a humble occasional reader.
Ah, get well soon. Tummy pangs are plain bad

Ah but David, read the next line: "There's not much to tell now but come March we'll have a day or two of show-and-tell." Dramatic steps are afoot (well maybe not dramatic as in 'cry myself into a shaving my head bald' dramatic but steps are being takenjust need to get some paperwork signed and filed.
"Get off the grift, Roy. You don't have the stomach for it."
Congratulations on all that you are achieving, and take care of that stomach, good stomachs are scarce.
Wuts with awl of the spellin' and grammer korections?
Nude chat, hahah. Spambot humor. Hey G, (Longboard question) who's your Quake daddy?
Hey I want to know why Nintendo Wii makes you yawn! Please do post sometime.
