R.I.F.

In the last week I have somehow received the blessing and the curse that is free cable television. I think it has something to do with the new cable modem but who really cares — I have free cable!

There's the Cartoon Network, History Channel, Sci-Fi, Weather Channel, MSNBC, CNBC, CNN , MTV, VH1 and the ever popular FOX News with their exclusive live coverage of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

It has been a long while since I've had access to this many television stations. Now I can see why other bloggers churn out posts with topics ranging from contact forms to a picture of a rodent.

I mean, who has time to write anything spectacular when the History Channel is piping in archive footage of World War II 24/7? And holy crap, has anyone else noticed how many programs they have on the history of the Hindenburg?

It's enough to make a grown man cry.

I had the gamut of 'extended cable' channels for a while. You'll soon come to know the following substitute monikers for some of the channels:

  • History Channel: "The Hitler Channel" or the "Black Sheep Squadron Channel", depending on the time of day you tend to tune in
  • TLC: "The Worlds [insert superlative here] Things Channel"
  • Animal Planet: "The Crocodile Hunter Channel"
  • SciFi: "The Star Trek Channel'
  • Food Network: "The Emeril Channel"
  • MSNBC: "The Hardball Channel"

postscript: I now no longer have those channels. Thank God.

Fear not. I won't be a dear in the COX Cable headlights for very much longer. Not with all books I received for my birthday.

Also, why hasn't Paramount created a Star Trek cable channel. This seems like a no brainer to me. Unless they fear a drop in sales on the DVD season 1-inifinity products.

Books!? Who has time for books when you have cable? My backlog of books is growing by the week.

Hmmm, Greg disappears for 8 days, and then announces that he got free cable. Coincidence?

Same thing happened to me Greg. We bought basic cable ($13) but my cable Internet speeds/connection was so piss-poor that I complained, and complained, and complained so more. So they finally come out and take off the inhibiter(?) and now we get mucho channeles.

And resonance, I thought that TLC was really the Trading Spaces channel? It's all that seems to be on. That and Maternity Ward. 8^/

Careful! Now that you've mentioned it, you'll be discovered!
