You may have noticed there is a problem with the comments. A few days ago, on a triple dog dare from Jason Santa Maria, I upgraded to Movable Type 3. It was effortless and the whole process was mostly uneventful except for the comments.
For whatever reason comments now require that I approve them manually. It's a big pain the the butt and I'm not sure where this feature would be useful as approving comments means I have to open each one up and click save. While I like the feeling of being able to lock down comments against the asshats who try to post here from time to time, it's not practical for someone who is not in front of their website all the time.
There is a way to deselect this feature, and I have done so about ten times. Still nothing changes and I am left to checking in every so often to see if there are pending responses. I'm not sure if this is a flaw in MT 3.1 or perhaps there is a configuration file needing adjustment that I am not aware of.
ANOTHER UPDATE Comments are working but you will receive a CGI Error after posting. I assume this has to do with another plugin not compatible with MT3.
FIXED Apparently MT3 likes to run processes in the background. That's my laymen interpretation of what was described to me. The problems experienced was a result of my server not able to run these tasks in way MT3 would like. Placing the line 'LaunchBackgroundTasks 0' in the mt.cfg file forces the application to process things in the foreground. Thanks to the Six Apart crew for all their help.
And speaking of said asshats. I grow increasingly tired of persons who post messages with false names, email addresses, and web sites. To you I say what's the point? Are you really that insecure or scared to speak for yourself? Crapcaps like you need not bother commenting here.
Meanwhile, did anyone else notice that the Queen of Ketchup was wearing a ketchup red dress to deliver her speech? Was this subliminal advertising or just 57 points of light? Don't be surprised if Kerry roles up to the stage riding the Oscar Myer Wiener Mobile.

Join the fray by reading through and commenting at the end.
You'll want to check "Comment Configuration" under Main Menu > Airbag > Configuration > Preferences in MT. "Accept Comments from Unregistered Visitors" should be checked, and "Enable Unregistered Comment Moderation" should *not* be checked.
We've got a lotta options for managing comments, which makes the configuration a little ungainly. You can file a help ticket in your account at movabletype.org if you need assistance, or just email me for more info.
Just to be clear, I was forced into the triple dog dare. He double black dog dared me and called "no reversies". As you can see, I had no other choice.
I shall now promptly incorporate "crapcap" into my daily vernacular.
That is all — thank you.
God, isn't that comment thing hinky? I have struggled with it for about a month now, and have given up. I have neither the time or patience for that kind of crap. And if you want to talk about thwarting asshats, let's start by macing comment spammers. I delete about 150 a day these days, and until Blacklist 2.0 is availastable (like that new MarCom coinage?), I'm screwed.
And is "crapcaps" in the public domain? I need a new epithet.
[Crapcap] I like it as a lightweight PG version of asshat. I still prefer asshat.
Beerzie brings up an interesting bit. Is anyone else a bit yawned by the winners of the MT plug-in contest? The winners were mostly ports of existing 2.6 plug-ins. Yawn.
Wake me up when something interesting happens.
D'oh! The problem was running Blacklist 1.x on MT3.x. That causes broken behavior. Ironic, since most other plugins work fine when migrating from MT2.x to MT3.
I may be dense, but do asshat and crapcap relate to "having your head up your ass"? I think they do... if one's head was in one's ass, they'd effectively have an ass for a hat. Or crap. Personally, I got tired of dicking around with MT and am working on switching to Textpattern in my spare time (which is very spare, thus no public demonstration of this switch which is just in my mind and a hidden directory on another server at this point).
Thanks Anil, that was driving me up the friggin wall. Blacklist has worked wonders in the comment spam area and from what I read MT 3.1 is actually going to ship with it installed. Until then if you see a comment about extending genitality or buying home insurance just ignore it and I'll make it go away as soon as possible.
As for crapcap, enjoy. I needed to expand my vocabulary for describing asshats.
ButtBeret?
With the Triple Dog Dare, Greg had no choice.
Why is it I feel comment spammers and spammers in general need to be thrown onto the front line of the Iraqi war. I think we all could afford to lose a few blue pill pushers.
Good one Ryan that college degree is starting to kick in! Yeah baby!
Watch out Obama!!
ShitChapeau?
BootyBonnet?
FannyFedora?
i got nuthin'.
There's a beta of MT-Blacklist 2.0 with handpicked beta testers, but I'm not likely to get chosen, but Airbag, due to its traffic might have a real shot at it.
What's wrong with just plain shithead?
The FCC doesn't allow the 'S-word' and neither does my mother. Besides, what will happen to the English language if we all insult each other in the same way?
There are lots of people uncomfortable with having their personal information hanging around on the web, including me. I don't want a comment I left on Airbag Industries coming back to haunt me when I run for president in 2036.
So what, if you and I met in person you would wear a bag over your head and give me a false name? If you feel so uncomfortible leaving your name then do not bother commenting at all. You also might want to consider join a twleve step program to get over yourself.
Exactly. I recently talked with someone that somebody else didn't want their blog mentioned in the newspaper. If you don't want the general public to read your blog, then why are you writing a blog? Put it in a journal and stick it under your bed.
I can still find usenet posts I made back in 1994 on Google groups. If you post / write something somewhere on the internet, there's a good chance it's not going to go away, so if you don't want something you've said to stick around, don't say it.
Greg, we're not meeting in person. If we did, nothing would be recorded or archived and we'd both likely forget about it soon after. It's not that I think I'm so great (or that I'll ever run for president), I just value my privacy. Why the hostility?
But we are meeting in person, you are on my site making a comment. You may as well be in my living room doing the same and yet you don't show me the simple repect of identifying who you are. I provide enough information about me for you to know whom you are speaking (commenting) with so why do you come here with a bag over your head and leave an anonomous comment?
And don't give me that crap about running for public office what a joke.
Anyone who isn't willing to stand up for themselves especially when it comes to making a comment on another persons website is either a coward or has something to hide and I have absolutely no respect for either.
Crapcaps!
hahah...
