Martha.

So, Benard (WorldCom) Ebbers gets twenty-five years in the big house. Hazzah!

Perhaps our system of justice isn't broken after-all, unless of course, there's a celebrity on the stand, then jurors tend to forget their heads.

It's too bad the judge didn't round up and make it an even thirty but knowing that Ebbers will soon be sporting a Gitmo tuxedo is good news indeed. Hopefully, this is only the first in a string of successful prosecutions of others who thought it was ok to bend the law in their favor, causing strife and financial ruin for hundreds of thousands of people.

Ken Lay you're next asshat. If I were you, I would start sucking up to your future boyfriend, I mean cell-mate, Bernie. Or you could go OJ and start a police chase to Neverland where you might try to claim political asylum.

In either case Kenneth, it will not end well for you.

Ken Lay will never go down, at least as long as the current administration is in office. After all, he's "Kenny Boy" to the Chimp in Charge, and we know that El Presidente stands by and protects his friends. Gives 'em promotions and medals and stuff, too. I'm surprised Lay hasn't been tapped to replace Allen Greenspan.

But still -- the vision of Kenny Boy being frog-marched from the courthouse to the Club Fed Express is a pleasant one, indeed.

Re: Martha...

Ok, Martha was a celebrity but her crime was far less onerous than every one of the others mentioned. You can't equate selling a few thousand shares of stock with an $11 billion accounting fraud or with the Enron debacle. In fact, they couldn't even convict Martha of insider trading and had to convict her of lying to the Feds.

When David Boies was on Chas Rose many, many months ago, he explained that the Feds never actually made a transcript or recording of Martha's talk with them (as they must do by law) and they used that same talk as the basis for her indictment. How her lawyers let that slide was beyond comprehension.

I'll dig out the DVD of the show and double-check my facts and post back later...

Well that is good news indeed about Ebbers. But I wonder if after he appeals and counter appeals etc... will he ever go to the big-house? I hope he does. WCOM cost me 5K! Glad it wasn't the sume I first thought of investing.

I think a "tossed salad" will take on a whole new meaning for Mr. Ebbers.

I wasn't following the trial, but I saw on the news the other night that he "appeared as if he may have been crying" as the verdict was read. Crying? C'mon... he didn't cry while he was lying about WorldCom's financial affairs. I mean, he is 64, but it's not like he's going to end up serving the full 25 years anyway.

Bernard,

In case you're reading this, I know from experience that it will be hard to go without a good Chateau Lafite Rothschild. here is a recipe for you that should make a fine substitute. Best of luck.

Perhaps there will be room in the cellblock for Karl Rove?

Mark L. — 06:48 on 07.18.05#

They should lock Karl Rove up in a nice, big, blue state.

Sentence him to work for Kerry '08.

I think it's funny that he cried.

He'll be up for payroll within five years, just wait. Dang I'm pessimistic. Or is that realistic?

OT regarding chrissteeter.net:

Greg: I know you like to get really heated about people stealing design, but I think there's enough difference there to be considered "heavily influenced." If you look through his code, you can see that he's actually put a bit of work into his own stuff.

The most important thing is that this isn't really another case of someone trying to pass of work as their own in an effort to try to gain some kind of business. Nowhere does he tout his skills of design. He's a student, and one in CS... not web design.

If a website makes a truly engaging design, it will most definitely be emulated. Quit trying to be the web's person IP cop.

In this case, It's imitation... not infringement. Give the guy a break.
