Guitar.

Tonight is the beginning of a new era of hurt I intend to inflict upon my friends — whether it's from sniper fire across a canyon or blunt melee attack to the base of the neck. Yet despite the promise of punishment they are saving my place in line to pick up Halo 2.

You can safely assume that we will be skipping out the store, giggling like school girls, all the way to a friends place where multiplayer destruction awaits into the wee hours. And then at some point the sun will come up and remind us all that a real world exists beyond throwing someone off a moving vehicle only to turn around and frag them into the ground.

Now if I could just get over this flu, it will likely take a few days. Sadly, If more inoculations had been made available, I might have been able to work. I blame Nixon.

i can't make it to a store for the midnight madness, but i have mine preordered with the fastest shipping available. i don't think i've ever been this excited about a game. i even bought an xbox a month or so back just in anticipation for this game.

In other news, two web servers go down as the signup for the World of Warcraft open beta begins.

This is the only reason I've hung on to my Xbox. Now, if I can only leave reality behind for a little bit and squeeze in some game time!

This game is going to rock.. hard. Im hoping I can convince my mom that I can go to this midnight madness thing. If you havent already, check out Bungie and the guide they put up.

A friend of mine (an xbox developer) has been playing the halo 2 beta for a few months now... he was so excited, he said: back in the day, the question was "spread or laser?" now a new debate begins which will rage on for centuries : "plasma rifle or submachinegun or power rifle?"

No PC version?!

I'm trying really hard not to get swept into the Halo 2 madness even though I have an XBox, 4 controllers, and Live. So...when my wife gets back from her ChemE classes tomorrow, there's 3 other people at our place, and I've skipped work all day...then I can just blame it on you, right Greg?

I have no words for Halo 2. All I can say is that I am with you, and that upon picking up my pre-order when I arrive back in Los Angeles tonight productivity may take a small hit. I look forward to meeting you and others i have only read/known online on the field of battle and greeting you with a firm melee to the back of the head. In the immortal words of Wayne and Garth "Game On!"

I waited, I bought, I got halo 2 baby!
2 minutes back to my house.
2 minutes carefully unwrapping to relish the experience, and then watched the opening scenes.

had read about older xbox's having trouble with the dual layer disc, so I'd bought a new xbox earlier in the day, just in case. Glad I did because my old one wasn't making it. kept saying I had a dirty disc. new out of the box? no, not dirty. so a quick switcher-oo of xboxs, and I was clean into the 1st stage...
ah, what a night. around 2am, my lovely wife brought some cookies down. she was still awake? news to me. what a wonderful woman to support my habbit. :)

Doh! I picked up my copy this morning. I was out and about last night, and drove by my local store, but the line was very long, and, well, I'm too old to stand in line at midnight anymore. So I have it waiting in the car. Now I just have to struggle through the rest of the day at work!

It is going to be a long afternoon, methinks. :)

Gamertag is mkin, if anyone wants to get some easy kills.

As soon as I gets me some live I'll be looking for all of you. My good friend and I waited over an hour at midnight through waves of acne infested teens and BO that could only have come from week-long LAN parties in preparation for the splendor that is Halo 2.

I was lucky and didn't have to work yesterday. I can still hear them screaming.

Halo 2. I got into Need for Speed Underground 2 rather than Halo 2. And... My favourite: www.truecombat.com/intro.php

Alternative to live.

If you don't have xbox live and your'e looking for a free and legal alternative, check out http://www.teamxlink.co.uk.

They have a free app that sits on your computer and tricks your xbox into thinking there are other xboxes in the room. Basically one big system link. You can play any game that supports system link (xbox, gamecube, and ps2).

I've been playing Halo 2 using this app and so far it's been pretty cool. I'm excited to try my gamecube out online since there aren't a lot of online options for this console.

Greg — 05:55 on 11.17.04#

Toby, dude, Xbox Live goes for $50 for an entire year. Not only does it include voice chat during games (which is very handy) you also get to play with hundreds of thousands of people , not just a few welfare gamers across the Atlantic.

Now I can see where using this for the Cube is a good idea, I don't think Nintendo knows what playing online means.

Toby — 12:38 on 11.17.04#

I completely agree xbox live is a must have (I have my subscription). But there are certain games with system link support, no xbox live support. For those games this xlink app is pretty cool.

And as I mentioned the Gamecube is also supported. I'm ordering my network adapter in anticipation of playing Mario Kart DD, and the upcoming Metroid Prime 2 which is suppose to have multi-player support.

I sold my Gamecube a week after I saw the Donkey Konga bongo drums at E3. They were trying to position the product as the next greatest thing in video games. Maybe if you're trying to pitch a product to Hello Kitty fans. It's too bad really because all of Nintendo's brand games would work really well online.

I don't really see what's all that great about Halo. I've played both the first and the second and they're just ok. I'm not really that much into first person shooters. I mean of course I had fun, but it just felt like a rehashed version of Bond. Of course I'll probably end up getting it at some point just so I can play against everyone at work since they all bought it.

It's ok, but I knew I'd be disappointed. It would never be as good as it was billed. Now NFS Underground 2 and Tony Hawk's Underground 2 will probably be awesome.

I got my XBox for free and I've tried to only buy greatest hits games. Now if only NFS Underground will go greatest hits...

Forgot to mention: the best thing about Halo 2 is that incubus is a part of the soundtrack. They were supposed to be the title screen music but someone messed that up.
