Recent Bushums 2004-2005

Shamelessly taken from this morning Doonesbury and noted here for posterity and hilarity.

March 21, 2004

"Too many OB/GYN's aren't able to practice their love with women all over the country."
September 6, 2004

"After all Europe is America's closet ally."
February 22, 2005

"Free societies will be allies against those hateful few who have no conscience, who kill at the whim of hat."
September 17, 2004

"September the 4th, 2001 I stood in the ruins of the Twin Towers. It's a day I will never forget."
October 18, 2004

"That's why I went to Congress last September and proposed fundamental supplemental funding, which is money for armor and body parts."
September 4, 2004

"Our enemies are innovative and resourceful, and so are we. They never stop thinking about new ways to harm our country and our people, and neither do we."
August 5, 2004

"And so during these holiday seasons, we thank out blessings."
December 10 , 2004

"We are in no way shape, of form should a human being play God."
January 14, 2005

Not wanting to leave you with this boobery jostling around your noggin all day long I leave you with this, a quote from another president whose wisdom and eloquence never gets old.

"Upon the subject of education, not presuming to dictate any plan or system respecting it, I can only say that I view it as the most important subject which we as a people may be engaged in. That everyone may receive at least a moderate education appears to be an objective of vital importance."
— Abraham Lincoln

A nice compilation. Where would we be without the Internets?

I don't know if you're trying to be ironic (sometimes it's hard to tell with you), but the word you're looking for is "posterity," not "prosperity."

Dave — 08:30 on 06.13.05#

Quotes from Lincoln may very well have been filtered and corrected over the course of time. In fact, there is evidence that there are many quotes attributed to Lincoln that he never said.

Not that I'm defending Bush. I can't stand him.

Olivia — 08:35 on 06.13.05#

Lincoln's quotes would look far different if they had a 24 hour news source during his presidency.

Armor and body parts... oh man that's classic. And sad.

andy — 09:14 on 06.13.05#

Dave, you must have been watching CSPAN Book Events last night :) There was a guy on there who was talking about that very thing.

Greg — 09:15 on 06.13.05#

Andy, I chose the wrong word in spell check. Damn. In this day and age that means I'm qualified to lead this country one day in the future. China, watch your ass baby.

Olivia, excellent point.

Biggest Apple — 10:06 on 06.13.05#

Greg - I know you think those Bushisms are painful but now imagine you're an American living abroad. I'm telling you it makes me want to hide under a table.

Greg — 10:10 on 06.13.05#

BA, how is your British accent coming along?

Bryan — 10:10 on 06.13.05#

LOL - "prosperity" instead of "posterity" and you had the benefit of proofing, spell check, etc.

How ironic considering the ENTIRE point of your post.....

classic, again...

William Stewart — 10:31 on 06.13.05#

It's funny, Bryan, how liberals like Greg enjoy criticizing Bush for being human, yet they make the same mistakes too. This article definitely made a point, but I don't think it's the one he wanted to make!

Greg — 11:08 on 06.13.05#

"prosperity" instead of "posterity" and you had the benefit of proofing, spell check, etc.
Yes but at 5:30 in the morning. It's not like I have a West Wing looking over everything I write here. Still, you're right to laugh.

liberals like Greg

I'm sorry William we have never met in person so I'm not sure where you get the idea that I'm liberal. Don't confuse the longing for better leadership to be a measurement of my beliefs and morals.

Phil McCrotch — 11:13 on 06.13.05#

Um, William.... Bush is our President. You know, the leader of the free world. Greg is just some dude with a stilted attitude and a weblog. There's a big difference.

I mean, if you really want to start the "hyprocrite" conversation, then I look no farther than your party platform that abortion is bad and the death penalty is good. Killing is killing, buddy. If that doesn't make you look a hyprocrite, I don't know what does.

In any case, Greg pulled those from Doonesbury. Go gripe at them. You know Greg's position on many issues, why come around here toot your own horn? Oh, I know. Because it feels good. Keep your pants zipped, buddy.

Bob — 11:34 on 06.13.05#

Doonesbury and a 'Far Side' reference in a single post? How can one not click?

Mr. Prosperity — 11:55 on 06.13.05#

It is uncanny how Bush supporters will assume that the Presidentiary's detractors are "Liberals" (whatever that word means) or that they voted for/supported/loved Bill Clinton. It might be time to find a new approach, fellahs.

jojo — 12:13 on 06.13.05#

Haha! Our President talk funny!

I bet Doonsebury maintains a seperate wing in that museum still devoted to Dan Quayle! Haha!

So very, very funny. And the timeliness of it all. Sheer comic genius.

It's amazing - the clarity, precision, and utter perfection of this strip shows how Doonesbury's intellect towers over such peers as "The Morning Circus" and "Cathy."

Nixon had his secret tapes, Ford kept falling down, Bush I vomited on foreign leaders, Clinton stained a blue dress, and Bush II continually feels compelled to say very dumb things, and lie about why we are at war. We watch him like race fans may secretly want to see a fiery crash or golf fans see Tiger Woods slice into the next fairway, however, a president has control (not to mention a huge staff and all kinds of checks and balancing help) over what he says and does so there is no excusing his faux pas. I still cannot fathom how he was reelected.

Billy — 12:54 on 06.13.05#

AAAK! It's Family Circus.

Bryan — 01:08 on 06.13.05#

"I still cannot fathom how he was reelected."

Perhaps because the chucklehead running against him was just as much of a tool.

*The latest*
So Kerry releases his full military/medical records....Why now?? Voters wanted to see them during the campaing, the press wanted to see them during the campaign, Tim f-ing Russert asked him directly to sign Form 180 DURING the campaign, but until now they were withheld and delivered/filtered via Kerry's website/spin cycle. Now that they're out it seems he was truthful about his record and these docs would have helped exonerate him of the Swift Boat posse's hyped up charges.

So now it's a real head-scratcher....because he still withheld them....why??

Because in them were his official transcripts from Yale (previously unavailable), which reveal his grades as an undergrad were in fact lower than Bush's. And since a subtle, but substantial portion of his platform (that he let others float for him) was that Bush was a Texan hick whose Dad got him into Yale, for him to then reveal that his grades were worse than the "hick's" was presumed to be more damaging than appearing shady by not signing the full release form.

So there you have it - 21st century, two-party American politics at it's finest. They both sucked, Bush simply got more votes for "least suckiest, 2004".

But now.....if you think this year was a "which turd stinks less contest", just wait until 2008 when Hillary & Jeb oil up and square off!!

Mark L. — 01:56 on 06.13.05#

Be that as it may, give me one *dumb* Kerryism that can compete with the plethora of Bushisms... At least Kerry carries himself a bit more intellectually. No one in Bush's circle is brave enough to correct him or challenge him because they are all family cronies who don't have dissenting viewpoints.

Bryan — 02:14 on 06.13.05#

okay Mark, so your vote for "least suckiest, 2004" was for Kerry because he is a better speaker and "carries himself a bit more intellectually" - I've heard worse reasons....

I repeat - 21st century, two-party American politics at it's finest.

Ray — 02:24 on 06.13.05#

Off Topic

Greg, are you going to make a post about the verdict?

tom — 03:59 on 06.13.05#

*dumb* Kerryisms? Off the top of my head:

"I actually did vote for the $87 billion - before I voted against it."

On his collision with a secret service agent (ordered to protect him) while snowboarding:
"I don't fall down, [the] son of a bitch knocked me over." (The next day he fell down all on his own several times - without the help of the 'son of a bitch' who would give his life to protect the junior Senator.)

Watch C-SPAN long enough and even the most erudite will look like an ignoramus.

Anthony Yeung — 06:16 on 06.13.05#

Our enemies are innovative and resourceful, and so are we. They never stop thinking about new ways to harm our country and our people, and neither do we.

Haha, I remember in a video seeing Rumfield twitch his eye when he heard Dubya say that.

Sam — 05:42 on 06.14.05#

Sorry to go off topic, but what does OB and GYN mean? You'll have to pardon my ignorance, is this an american thing or do we british use it as well and I am just about as informed as a cheese sandwich?

Anyhoo, just be thankful you don't have Jack Napier/The Joker for a political leader! Gad, those teeth are eerie.

Greg — 06:25 on 06.14.05#

Sam, you might understand better if you were Sammy. For the sake of keeping on topic, Google it sometime.

Sam — 06:06 on 06.15.05#

Can do and done, chief! Knowing what it means makes it slightly less confusing. But not much.

alexbravo — 08:01 on 06.15.05#

An OB/GYN is a doctor who is an OBSTETRICIAN (delivers babies) or GYNECOLIGIST (helps the health of the woman). It would be illegal for these docotrs to practice "their love" with their own patients!

And voting for the $87 billion... if people knew how to research and read, instead of just watching FOX all day, they would know that Kerry SUPPORTED the $87 billion when it was going to be covered by repealing the tax cut for the ultimate richest of Americans, but opposed it when the money was going to be spent and charged against our unborn children and grandchildren (the way this corrupt admin has done EVERYTHING).

Mark L. — 12:50 on 06.17.05#

Thank you, alexbravo. Everybody always pulls that "$87 billion" Kerry quote out and lets it hang there in the air, but never fully understand what was behind his change. I didn't feel like explaining it to the selective hearing among us...
