Station Studios says: "...It all should validate successfully: XHTML and CSS. I use FrontPage for editing..."
Frontpage and successful validation in the same sentence paragraph?
I know Earth is experiencing record breaking temperatures, but how can this be possible?

Join the fray by reading through and commenting at the end.
Pay no attention to the man behind the screen.
Actually, they're not in the same sentance...
I know those words are English but I just don't understand the sentences...
Well.. he probably has Notepad on the PC. you have a better chance making a Valid XHTML site using that.
An assumption: None of you have used/seen FrontPage for a very very long time, maybe years and years.
Thomas are you suggesting that Frontpage is worth a second look?
Greg! Don't bother, WE all know Frontpage is for corporate dweebs who know nothing about webpage design. ;)
Hi Greg,
Thanks for using up my few minutes of fame on such a deep and meaningful subject... ;)
For the record, the only two things Frontpage does not do properly to make valid XHTML for any of the things needed on my site is to add the end slashes for and
. There's an HTML edit mode that allows you to add them. Other than that, it works fine for my purposes.
Of course, that would be (img) and (br) respectively. Hanging head in real shame now: first to be revealed as a Frontpage user; then, showing ignorance in filling in HTML forms...
Barry, no need to hang your head in shame around here.
I don't know if Frontpage has un-sucked itself, but Dreamweaver sure has gone to school since I used it back in the day. Boy howdy.
Greg: Well, don't get me wrong, I wouldn't use FrontPage if my life depended on it. Hmm, well, maybe if my life depended on it, but I don't think I'll be in a use-FrontPage-or-I'll-kill-you kind of situation any time soon.
I use Dreamweaver MX exklusively myself, before which I used HomeSite for years. Just like FrontPage, Dreamweaver MX suffers from a bad rep back from back when it was just a WYSIWYG editor with a poor code editor. It's not anymore.
FrontPage have also improved over the years, in tests it usually finishes in second place, always second to Dreamweaver MX (which, oddly enough, is the best editor regardless of wether you're a complete newbie or an experienced HomeSite "hacker"). Still, there is a world of a gap between the two, FrontPage is definately not a pro's tool, but don't think you know FrontPage just because you used it once in 1998, or something.
homesite 4.52. Colors the tags, has a quick preview mode, doesn't crash and doesn't get in the way of writing.
to me, DW is just MS word for HTML and Frontpage is much, much worse.
I know it was absorbed into DWmx, but there was that whole "macromedia buying allaire" fiasco that wrecked the current version (5? +?) before it was absorbed.
Sometimes old software IS the best software.
Nuff said.
dave: DW MX does everything HomeSite does, doesn't it? (Well, very very close to everything anyway) Atleast, DW MX has all the features I ever used in HomeSite, during the many years I used it.
Plus -- and this is a big plus for me -- DW MX has built in FTP support, you can upload a page, or directory, or entire site, by pressing a button, or automatically do so on save.
I used Frontpage for a year. In that time I created several sites that helped launch my career and establish a nice consulting business. There were a lot of quirks that I didn't like, so when Dreamweaver came around I jumped as soon as possible.
These days I almost can't stand Dreamweaver and it might be time for another change.
Greg: I recommend BBEdit for your Mac, and EditPlus for your PC. :-)
I've had BBEdit lite for sometime but after reading all of Zeldman's recommendations, I might try Pagespinner.
