Designpedia.

I received an email this morning from a friend doing research. He asked, "what are the design related sites that you look at every day, and If you had to pick one which is the best?"

Going through my pile of links crammed under the topics of "Daily" and "Design" there are several sites that discuss design in one way or another but few are devoted primarily to the practice, vocation, and art of design.

Here's the short list of design specific sites that I visit frequently.

If I had to chose just one it would be Core77 because I like the variety of design topics rather than focusing on just one vocation.

Now It's your turn. What are the design related sites that you look at every day? And If you had to pick one which is the best?

And please, please good people, the Airbag can only take so many hastily, cut-and-pasted URLs in the comment box. I implore you to make proper links so as to make this entry a nice little resource for everyone while providing easy-to-use responses for those doing said research — don't forget to explain what site is your absolute favorite and why, it's important.

A List Apart
CSS Vault

A List Apart is named for obligatory reasons, and CSS Vault is named because their site and the sites that they feature really seem to be able to inspire me and guide me the way no article can.

From a more newspaper-design world:
News Page Designer: User-submitted pages; great for finding small inspiration, even for web pages if you look hard enough
Visual Editors: General editing and design forums

Chris, if you want even more cool newspaper-design stuff, check out Newsdesigner.com, a blog with tons of great pics and commentary about newspaper design. One of my favorite blogs out there.

Mike, I already have Newsdesigner in the feed reader, but since I work in the sports department, I tend to find SportsDesigner.com a little more useful.

I feel like a sell-out listing this one (corporate site), but CreativePro. Why? Their weekly CreativeProse email newsletter features some fairly interesting articles. Nothing too in-depth or too far afield, but good, honest, down-to-earth, how-to's, reviews, etc.

Don't feel like a sell-out Blair. The web is so big these days it's hard to find even the all the good corporate sites.

Populicio.us

Not nearly design related, but plenty of design/development stuff pops up on the list.

Most of these are design & inspiration related for me and sometimes provide a necessary laugh or 2:

Newstoday
Pixelsurgeon
Netdriver
Styleboost

There's a lot of design sites I'd like to be visiting on a daily basis, but there just isn't enough regular output to justify doing so. Still, quality reads. Examples: Design-In-Flight, Weightshift, Byrdhouse, The Heads of State.

Favourite daily reads are Coudal, Subtraction and I pick up a lot of general designy links from Kottke.

Favourite, most interesting, most challenging design site is Design Observer.

Anyone remember this oldie? Haven't been to his site in ages but it was fun in the day with all the DHTML voodoo. Doc Ozone

I remember a time when K10K would have been all over a list like this. No more, alas, but I still like their links and stuff.

I see a lot of web design" links but surely there has to be more sites that cover design in general. Any really great sites from Europe, Asia, or South America out there?

Authentic Boredom is the first site I go to every day. Why? Because of the smart, candid, well-written content, as well as the many interesting links that Cameron puts on there of content I may not find out about otherwise. And he also writes about marketing strategies, techniques, etc.

Has no one mentioned Mezzoblue yet? He may not update all that often, but I love reading Dave Shea's thoughts.

Moluv.com. I'm a little biased, because it's my site, but we've been doing it a long time.
I'm also a fan of the work at the following sites:
CSS Beauty,
Well Vetted,
Linkdup,
Lookom

1.xplanes xblog is the best of them all, imho. superbly formatted, insightful and always interesting stories/links.
2.the k10k news feed - k10k without the slow server pixel mess.
3.cameron moll's blog is both beautiful and valuable.
4.netdiver.
5. wellvetted isn't really a blog, i know, but still...

You all should check out

www.designdump.com

I'm not a designer, but i am in the creative staffing industry in Clevalnd, Akron and Canton, Ohio. This is a great site locally, nationally and internationally.

Most of the stuff here is web-centric, and as Greg points out earlier, what about Design in all it's forms, not just web design. I'd love to find more sites that are more about the thinking behind design, not just the eye-candy galleries. Design Observer and Speak Up quite good but both a bit heavy for breakfast.

Giles Hoover — 11:50 on 01.22.06

Some excellent links in here, including a few wonderful sites I hadn't seen before. Thanks, all!

Here's a pretty specific niche:

Foreword, a book design blog.

Some photography, some rambling, lots of design. Not updated quite as often as I'd like, but doin' the best I can....
